Churches in industrial estates, shopping parades, houses, cinemas, or above pubs; here are buildings never designed to be places of worship.
The celebrated series Churches by Photoworks British School at Rome Fellow 2009, David Spero, is now showing at The National Media Museum, Bradford.
Taken in London between 2002 and 2006, this series documents buildings featuring none of the usual monumental architecture of the traditional church.Temporary, semi-permanent and often un-consecrated, the churches are where we would least expect. Sited in industrial estates, shopping parades, houses, cinemas, above pubs and commercial properties, here are buildings never designed to be places of worship.
