My work is based on shadow catching and light tracing. The work forms studies that seek to interrupt, imprint and record layers of time. These studies attempt to solidify passing light and lift shadows in various ways, to chart and duplicate their ethereality.
Chalk, dust and shadows are central elements in the work, used because they are material indices of passing time. I have used chalk to trace shadow lines and recorded dust as it makes marks in the air. See the film here.
The idea of an unseen image in waiting informs much of my work and questions what is inaccessible in the present.
My work engages with the early realization of Fox Talbot that photography shifted our understanding of light by turning time into space.
